Alisa A. Peskin-Shepherd is a compassionate and knowledgeable Family Law Attorney. She is specially trained as a Family, Divorce, and Custody Mediator, as well as a Collaborative Divorce Attorney. With these well rounded skills, Peskin-Shepherd helps families and individuals in transition effectively and efficiently resolve the challenges of their family law related issues. Her practice has focused in the area of domestic relations for over 20 years. Peskin-Shepherd also has prior experience in the areas of school law and employment law. Peskin-Shepherd is involved both locally and on state-wide levels with various organizations promoting advocacy for families. She regularly represents clients on a pro-bono basis through the Family Legal Assistance Project and other volunteer organizations. Peskin-Shepherd has also led workshops for social workers meeting licensing requirements entitled: Reducing the Harmful Effects of Divorce through Counseling and Mediation.
Practice Peskin-Shepherd concentrates her practice in all areas of family law, including divorce, child custody, parenting time, child support, alimony, step-parent adoption, prenuptial and postnuptial agreements, domicile issues as well as other family-related legal problems. Guiding philosophy Peskin-Shepherd believes that beyond being an alternative way to resolve disputes, mediation is a philosophy and a way to practice family law. As your advocate, Peskin-Shepherd zealously represents the best interests of her clients. She believes that those interests can be best served through a meditative or collaborative, non-adversarial approach which will ultimately reduce the stress for the entire family; yet, she does not hesitate to involve the courts when necessary to resolve the family law dispute. Background Peskin-Shepherd’s years of experience as a divorce attorney help her to understand the tremendous benefits a non-adversarial approach can offer to divorcing or divorced families. In addition to being trained as both a facilitative mediator and in collaborative divorce, Peskin-Shepherd also has experience acting as a guardian-ad-litem protecting the interests of children within the legal system and special training in domestic violence through the State Bar of Michigan Open Justice Commission. Peskin-Shepherd is an approved mediator for Wayne and Oakland County Circuit Courts, Family Divisions and has provided volunteer mediation for Wayne County Circuit Court, Family Division. She was a presenter for the Oakland County Bar Association – Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee at its Advanced Alternative Dispute Resolution Seminar and regularly speaks for the Oakland County Circuit Court SMILE Program. Peskin-Shepherd has lectured for Wayne State University and for the Michigan Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers on topics relating to divorce, counseling and mediation. Prior to moving to Michigan, Peskin-Shepherd practiced law in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Memberships & Honors Peskin-Shepherd is a past recipient of the Oakland County Bar Association Pro Bono Service Award and past chair of its Continuing Legal Education (CLE) Committee. She continues to serve on the Oakland County Bar Association CLE Committee and is a member of the Family Court Committee and Alternative Dispute Resolution Sections. She is on the Board of Directors of the Family Mediation Council – Michigan, active in local chapters of FMC, and is an active member of the Collaborative Law Institute of Michigan. Peskin-Shepherd is a member of the Michigan Bar Association – Family Law and Alternative Dispute Resolution Sections; and the Michigan Inter-Professional Association on Marriage, Divorce and Family. Civic & Cultural Involvement Peskin-Shepherd serves on the board of directors and executive board of Congregation B’nai Moshe, has served on the board of the Fresh Air Society and provided legal consultation to the Jewish Family Service. EducationPeskin-Shepherd received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan, and her law degree from Case Western Reserve University Law School, Cleveland, Ohio where she represented her school on the award winning Jessup International Law Moot Court Team. |
