Henry: Alisa, we were kind of building the structure where with children you have custody and parenting time, and the next step is child support.

Alisa: So now you’re in 2 different household but still you have the same children, and who is going to pay for what? Michigan has guidelines that say with formulas what the child support should be based on the parent’s incomes.

Henry: And they are also geared in such a way where if one parent has more primary custody, the income of the custodial parent is slightly waived slightly less than the non custodial parent to urge the non custodial parent to work without being penalized on a dollar to dollar basis. I am often asked the question does a person who is receiving child support have to account for where that child support is going

Alisa: You know many payers used to want to know how you are using my child, my money, are you really using it on the child, but the recipient in no way has to report where the money goes to. And really we say that child support; we know what it costs to raise children, and really the child support formula is very basic, it doesn’t include many of the other payments for your children, sometimes in divorce contracts they mention the child’s extra activities such as sports, to add more to the formula cause child support doesn’t take it into consideration

Henry: And that’s important because if it’s not there, then there is a question of can you get it? And really no you really can’t.
